Happily Ever After

Perhaps I was too quick to judge Mr. Martin, for he is the most charming man. We are to be married! We met by chance again through a lovely dinner at the home of Mr. John Knightley, Mr. Knightley's brother. I thought that it would be extremely uncomfortable but we began to talk like old friends, soon enough, as though nothing had happened between us. When we met again, a few days later, he proposed to me.
Oh, how could I not accept? We get along so well, and this was the second time he proposed, if that is not proof that he truly loves me, then I do not know what is! It is most delightful; Emma and Mr. Knightley, Mr. Martin and I--love certainly blossoms here at Highbury.

What is Love Anyway?

It turns out that my affections for Mr. Knightley will never be returned. Although I loved him, he did not love me back. He loves Emma, it seems. They are to be married! It is joyous news but I can't help but feel as though I may never find a man who loves me, who returns affections as great as mine. Mr. Elton and Mr. Knightley have found love in another person. I can't bear to encounter Mr. Martin again; the embarrassment would be too much.

A Knight in Shining Armor

The ball was exceptionally delightful! Emma looked lovely and my dress was a beautiful as I thought it would be. Mr. Elton, however, was as far from delightful as anyone could possibly be. This new Mrs. Elton is constantly boasting about her past live back in Maple Grove. Hmph! I doubt Maple Grove is as lovely as Highbury, and I'm sure we have more reasonable and exceptional people, like Mr. Knightley.
Ah, Mr. Knightley! What a charming man! And so polite, too. He was kind enough to ask me to dance after Mr. Elton constantly and deliberately shunned my presence. He is most definitely a better man than Mr. Elton can ever be and far higher in society than Mr. Martin. Although Mr. Martin is still very sweet and we constantly talk, I know that Mr. Knightley will alway be there to provide for me and care for me. I think I might be in love!

Time for a Dance

Frank and Emma have been planning a ball for the entire town. It sounds most exciting! There is to be dancing, gaiety, and delightful food, of course. I have chosen a dress that Emma believes will be most appealing. Everyone is going to be there; I have heard that Mr. Elton is bringing his new bride. I hope our interactions will not be awkward; I believed Emma's insistence that he was a better match than Mr. Martin, when Mr. Elton was in love with Emma! Oh, it is already embarrassing enough to meet Mr. Martin and his sisters in the store! They are always polite to me, although I cannot imagine why. I shall try to hold my fears close and not let them show through my smile.

Highbury is So Delightful!

I've discovered Highbury to be a very pleasant town. The people here are very caring and attentive to me. Emma has become one of my closest friends and she always lets me know her opinion, which I am grateful for. Miss Bates is quite the talker, yet it is nice to just listen sometimes. Mr. and Mrs. Weston constantly talk about Mr. Weston's son, Frank Churchill. He sounds like the most charming man. I can't wait to meet him!
